Community News
It's February 1st and it's time for our second survey of 2010. Last month, we asked our members for their favorite new or returning feature in Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver. 60% of respondents favored the ability to visit both the Johto and Kanto regions, whilst 30% of the participants said they liked how their Pokémon could walk behind them in the overworld.
This month, we're asking our members about earning Club BlastBurners Rewards Points for the program premiere, happening in less than 6 months and only at our community. We want to know specifically which method you prefer for earning these valuable points. Are you more of a master at battling or answering trivia questions? It's your chance to vote for how we offer future opportunities for earning these rewards points.
Pokémon of the Week - Season 2 Premiere
Can you believe that it has already been 4 months since the Pokémon of the Week Season Finale? It seems like it was just yesterday, but from the time that the Season Finale aired on Wednesday September 30, 2009, we have not produced a single new episode of the series. Many of you probably thought that the series was over at that point, especially since I haven't really talked about it at all.
For those of you who have good memories of past events, you'll probably remember that in September 2009, we held a survey asking our community if our Pokémon of the Week series should continue past its first season. To remind everyone of the results, not including myself, 16 people voted in the survey (surprisingly our most voted survey as of today) and 12 of which wanted the series to continue.
Although I never specifically said whether I would end the series or not, it was clear from the survey results that Pokémon of the Week would be coming back for a brand new season. The only question was when it would return.
To understand why it took so long to bring the series back, you need to understand a bit of the history behind how the series first started on Sunday February 24, 2008. We had been considering hosting a Pokémon of the Week series since 2007, but I wasn't in the mood to do it, and no one else was either. But, placing my laziness aside, I figured that if I didn't make the series myself, no one else would. So, in February 2008, in coordination with the 10th movie premiere of The Rise of Darkrai, I decided that it was time for the premiere of our series as well.
Now, if you have a keen eye, you'll notice that the headings for each episode in the first season (i.e. Overview, Ability, Movesets, Other Options and Countering) were taken directly from Serebii's page template. The information in those sections was unique, including the movesets, all of which I wrote myself. But in my rush to get the series produced, I neglected to fix the flaws which are now clearly apparent in each episode.
First of all, with the amount of writing I had to do from scratch, each episode took me 3 hours to produce, even though I doubted that anyone would actually read every sentence I wrote on the page. Second, with all the writing, the page itself wasn't that organized, and it was hard to read, especially if all you wanted to do was skip to the movesets section of the episode.
I thought about how to improve the template for each episode, but any major change would require a lot of time and work, and I didn't think it would be best to stop production mid-season just to come out with a new template. Hence, we come to the end of September 2009 and after 76 episodes, the Season Finale airs at our community.
During the last 4 months, I've been working on creating a brand new template for Season 2. Unlike in Season 1, this template is completely unique and created from scratch. It's not copied from any other website and it took me a very long time to make it, hence the long wait time for Season 2. But it's finally finished, and it's time to bring our most popular series back!
